Well the knee jerk reaction was a copperhead, but tbh I don't 100% know. We were doing over 20 mph past it and it was golden/copper in color. I wasn't about to stop and find out.
I've only used it once. While bike packing on day 3, i really felt the need for some anti-chafe. Regularly I don't though, not really a fan of the feeling.
Unfortunately, I own a lot of older kit (electronics, helmets, etc.), but I get to test ride the new stuff from time to time. My list of things I want/need:
New MTB and Road shoes
New helmet (mines been on the ground too many times with me in it)

They are fielding questions from all of us. I mean there's talks of short track xc, olympic xc, xterra's, cx. They have options and trying to figure out what works best for them is definitely a challenge.
That's how the DSR got started so it would be cool, i just hate riding gravel. All the problems of riding mtb, slow speed and dirty, without the fun of riding mtb, jumps and what not. Idk, it's not my bag but there are a lot of people into it. Lot's of people down here really do enjoy solo...
I enjoy it if we go early enough in the day to avoid the heat. The ticks are the worst part for me. I've only ran into 1 snake on a mtb trail before, but i ran into one on the road a few times, most recently this past saturday.
I wouldn't necessarily agree. These events are well known within the local community and are typically discussed over the course of the year. I think people realized that these organized rides aren't really worth it in the same way. We ride these roads all the time.

I tried it before because i was battling some muscular issues, turned out to not be too little salt intake. It was okay, i think it would be too heavy for on the bike when I'm breathing out of my ears.
Depends on what you define as expensive. You can pop down to the Walmart and pick up a bike for $200 (which is ALOT for some folks) and start riding. You can stop by your LBS and pick up a nicer commuter for ~$500. For a few more bucks you can hop onto a beginner MTB or road/all road bike for...
