    A Dirty Triathlon?

They are fielding questions from all of us. I mean there's talks of short track xc, olympic xc, xterra's, cx. They have options and trying to figure out what works best for them is definitely a challenge.

Is Southern Illinois missing out on organized rides?

That's how the DSR got started so it would be cool, i just hate riding gravel. All the problems of riding mtb, slow speed and dirty, without the fun of riding mtb, jumps and what not. Idk, it's not my bag but there are a lot of people into it. Lot's of people down here really do enjoy solo...

    Mountain Biking in the Summer

I enjoy it if we go early enough in the day to avoid the heat. The ticks are the worst part for me. I've only ran into 1 snake on a mtb trail before, but i ran into one on the road a few times, most recently this past saturday.

They have xterra's which is lake swim, mtb ride, trail run. I would definitely prefer kayak life though

Is Southern Illinois missing out on organized rides?

I wouldn't necessarily agree. These events are well known within the local community and are typically discussed over the course of the year. I think people realized that these organized rides aren't really worth it in the same way. We ride these roads all the time. These events are very...

    River to River Trail (Gravel/MTB)

Training for the Next Big Race in Southern Illinois

Next race in SoIL is a crit in Edwardsville. Definitely a great event, or at least it was last year. The whole town shows up to support the races.

    Hydration strategies

I tried it before because i was battling some muscular issues, turned out to not be too little salt intake. It was okay, i think it would be too heavy for on the bike when I'm breathing out of my ears.

Does cycling have to be expensive?

Depends on what you define as expensive. You can pop down to the Walmart and pick up a bike for $200 (which is ALOT for some folks) and start riding. You can stop by your LBS and pick up a nicer commuter for ~$500. For a few more bucks you can hop onto a beginner MTB or road/all road bike for...

    Hydration strategies

Lots of fluids pre-, during-, and post-ride. Typically 1L pre and post and as much as I can drink during. If I'm riding hard and in the sun for a lot of the ride i will go through 1.5 bottles an hour, so sometimes I bring a 3rd bottle in the back pocket just to keep hydration. If that isn't the...

    Car Radars

Never thought to use it like that. Great call on using it as a rearview mirror.

Do you ever get discouraged as a road cyclist?

I don't really leave town unless it's vacation so when I'm in an area I'm not familiar with, i try to find local group rides and hit those. If not I'll hop on garmin heat maps and typically it's not too bad. I have a pretty high risk tolerance for cars. I will take more lights and things on...

    Car Radars

I currently don't, but that is purely a fiscal problem for me. I love the idea. That being said, just because I know the car is coming isn't going to prevent them from forcing me to become one with the asphalt.

    Favorite on the Bike workout

So as much as I love my long days in the saddle with a good podcast, sometimes you're preparing for a specific event. What's your go-to work out for days when you have to get a ride in, it cant be that long and you need to hit some of those non-zone 2 systems? Does it change throughout the year...

Do you ever get discouraged as a road cyclist?

I'm pretty much moving to the MTB for a while, especially with the students moving back into town soon. Hopefully, the weather will allow this.

    Folding Road Bike

$2000 is a lot for a slow road bike unfortunately. If I was a college kid in the city this would be perfect so i could easily take it on public transit

    Last Ride Stats!

Did Tour de Donut on Saturday. It was ridiculously hard, by far one of the hardest rides of the year. (This includes nearly 2 hours of easy riding after the race)
