What do you do for a living?

Try to motivate unmotived newly minted adults into learning an extremely difficult discipline.
 
Enterprise IT consulting (work on big computer systems for Fortune 100 companies)...but thinking of going to back to school.

Nice! I do freelance writing for a few hiking blogs. I've written for Terrain Magazine a few times. I'm also the community manager for Copyblogger.com which is a big copywriting blog. Those are side gigs :D Copy is fun!

I'm not a fantastic writer, but how does one go about getting an article put in terrain mag or something similar?

They contacted me because of my hiking "fame." But you could just contact them out of the blue (cold call) by email or something and pitch your idea. It's good to have an idea to pitch and some examples.
