The Tunnel Hill State Trail : Surface question

The bulk of the trail is crushed limestone. However, there are some areas, depending on time of year and washout, that have more freshly laid larger chunk gravel. Last time I rode it this was a short 200m section north of Tunnel Hill, IL. Everything else was able to be done safely on an older...

@Shawn Gossman will have the best info on Tunnel Hill. He lives close and rides it regularly.

    What's your weekly mileage goal?

honestly you just need room for a trainer near a screen.

    The Great Southern Country

I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's probably that he keeps doing the same thing over and over. "I'm going to tackle this extreme distance in this short period of time. Can I do it?" The answer is always, "Yeah probably, you ride faster on your Z2 rides than I ride full out." I don't care...

    What's your weekly mileage goal?

just getting on and maintaining a decent heartrate for an hour or so without stopping pedaling is enough.

    What's your weekly mileage goal?

    Beautiful Southern Ride Ended

This is a potential fix. There are just less "younger" folks into cycling here. Being one of those, we are either starting or building our career and tbh, my job is administration, I don't want more of it. The group of cyclists that I typically see leading these rides is people with established...

    Kinkaid Lake MTB Trail

I rode it when it first opened. The first downhill is awesome, could be more if I wasn't so bad at MTB.

    Hi! :)

Welcome! Carbondale has a decent bike path that leads out to crab orchard. Once the weather warms up, we should be having saturday morning group rides at beginner pace from the Bike Surgeon in Carterville.

    Beautiful Southern Ride Ended

Great point Matt. In order for a ride to survive now, it has to be an "experience" or put on by a person/community that has many connections to keep it going. Nostalgia jus doesn't cut it anymore. Many of us "cycling nuts" ride these very roads every single week, and the beauty/freshness of them...
